The village of Buddusò, surrounded by cork tree woods, is famous worldwide for its granite, the building material of its typical 19th-century exposed-stone houses.
Since 1984, every summer the village has been hosting an international symposium of sculpture. The works created in the various editions of this event are exhibited in the museum. This is not your usual museum: it has two exhibition areas: one indoor, with bas-relief and all-round wooden sculptures, mostly in Sardinian chestnut and the extra hard African iroko. The other is outdoors, in the part surrounding the museum and in the nearby streets and squares, where granite sculptures have been placed.
The whole population, in particular young people and children, but also the elderly, follow with interest all the phases in the creation of the sculptures, asking questions of the artist as the work takes shape. Viewers can follow the whole cycle of the sculpture, experiencing the art world in an involving manner, going well beyond the traditional concept of art exhibition.
The star piece of the museum is a sculpture made of granite and wood.
