Punta Scorno is a promontory of amazing beauty on the northern tip of the Asinara island. The island, which has a total area of some 51 km². and is more than 18 km in length, forms a part of the Asinara National Park, a protected marine area set up in 2002.

The headland, a place of wild, unspoilt beauty, is dominated by the 'Punta Scorno Lighthouse', standing on a 25 m high rise, a beacon for the sea routes to Sardinia, built in 1854 and commissioned in 1859 by the Engineering Corps. It stands austere and solitary on a small outcrop, adding to the fascination of this corner of Sardinia. The whole Asinara island is a place of rugged natural beauty and historical memories - it was once the seat of a prison, closed in 1998. A land of plunging sea cliffs, and patches of euphorbia where the grey Sardinian donkeys, a unique species, roam freely. A place of spectacular bays and magnificent white beaches. The island can be reached by ferry from Porto Torres and Stintino.
