The Castle of Burgos is set on the top of a granite peak at the foot of Monte Rasu, visible also from afar, set on a vantage point for control of the surrounding countryside. This imposing fortress stands in a beautifully scenic position. It is an important document of both Medieval history and daily life. According to some sources, it was built in 1134 by Gonnario I, the sovereign of Torres. The castle comprises a curtain wall and a majestic tower with square ground plan, some 16 m high and laid out on two levels.

Leave SS 129 at the turnoff for Ozieri. once you have passed through the small village of Esploratu you will be at Burgos. To reach the castle itself . set on the top of the hill . pass through the historic centre.
