Planargia, during the Middle Ages a territorial district of the judiciary of Torres, is the vast, fertile, volcanic highland that extends from Marghine up to the sea, in the territories of Villanova to the north and Montiferru to the south. The name derives from the lie of its geographical conformation, dominated by the basaltic highland but also from the sinuous sequence of volcanic hills that slowly drop down from the hinterland toward the coastline. In the small territorial size of Planargia an amazing geographical variety is found, that puts together fascinating sea sceneries hemmed by enchanting beaches, the wild cliffs that rise up between sky and sea, a wealth of plant species that are found in its mountain meadows and valleys, home also to the vulture griffon and other colourful species of avifauna.
Planargia is a fortunate region in having a wonderful geographical position and a mild climate the whole year round, and is an area of great importance in the wine production of Sardinia, thanks above all to the famous malvasia wine of Modolo, that like nearby Bosa (in the municipal territory of Villanova) and the other bordering towns is a fundamental stop off point for inebriating enological itineraries.
But Planargia is also the ideal destination for a journey into the discovery of the town traditions of the Sardinian people, protagonists in the exhibition at the house museum of Suni.
